I am so tired of the word “crackdown” to describe what ICE and the national guard are doing. A crackdown, even if neutral about the manner in which it’s done, implies there’s something to “crack down” on. There isn’t!!!

You can joke about Pam Bondi’s ridiculous unprofessionalism all you want, but I’m deeply shocked by it: She acts as if she fears absolutely no consequences, convinced that there will be no more political power transfers. — This should shake everyone to their core.

It bears repeating again and again. (1) Drug trafficking is not a capital offense even under American law on our shores (2) These civilians have been alleged to commit crimes (3) All accused persons are entitled to due process and the have evidence presented in courts of law. We are not barbarians.

The president does not have this power. He’s acting unconstitutionally to commit crimes against humanity— murder on the high seas. Lest it be forgotten, the president may be immune re: official acts (assuming these are), but subordinates committing extrajudicial executions are not so entitled.

How will SCOTUS justify none of this applying to the next president? Easily: it never justified why it applied to Trump. No written opinions, no precedent to contradict. It's an even cleaner perversion of the law for its special boy than "our consideration is limited to the present circumstances."

You know what: If that actually worked, I might be ok with it. If this actually caused the Right to halt their assault on the constitutional order, to attack vulnerable groups, fair enough. But it doesn’t! Outside of the confines of polite elite discourse, it doesn’t do anything!

The defining political project of Trumpism is the promise to mobilize the coercive powers of the state and a constant threat of violent aggression to impose a reactionary orthodoxy on a changing, pluralizing society. That is the opposite of “agree to disagree.”

Their proposition is that people can live in America as long as they submit to white Christian male dominance, as long as they don’t challenge the prevailing power and sensibilities of what they define as “real America.” Don’t deviate. If you do, you’ll have to accept lesser status - or worse.
