I'm currently working on a medical history-related masters thesis and the death rate is only half the story. The amount of people left bind, deaf, or with limb paralysis after (now) vaccine-preventable illnesses is seriously sad. Likely a lot of undiagnosable (at the time) brain injuries also.

Can anyone recommend a good bible to use in an academic context? For historical research not theological. I was raised areligious so this is all new. I can access the Oxford NRSV online (although I suspect I will need to purchase one). Any pitfalls/biases to be aware of?

Is anyone aware of any NZ historians who have written about Māori Hostels? Early 20th C if possible. I've found one thesis that picks up more mid-century. They were accomodation for visiting Māori during a period where few lived in cities and other establishments often wouldn't allow them to stay.

This govt has also made cuts to Archives NZ, National Library, digitisation projects, and Ngā Taonga. These cuts effect not only academic/professional history, but also public accessibility to resources. You shouldn't need an academic log in or to be a professional to access your own history.
