I've heard there is a lot of local opposition to the high speed rail project, and I keep pointing out that the same 50 or 100 people showing up to oppose it at public meetings just means about 0.1% of the local population is strongly opposed to it and the other 99.9% don't care enough to show up.

One curiosity I have in this - how many airports in Ontario can accommodate this type of jet? Doug claims some people encouraged him to keep it so he can "get around the province faster," but how many places could he actually land in it and would it be faster to get there with staging and prep time?

Gas tax breaks are bandaids at best. Real solution is to help low & middle-income Cdns get off fossil fuels. Invest in solar, heat pumps, batteries, EVs. Tackle barriers, offer real incentives & fund w/ windfall tax on Big Oil (who are laughing all the way to the bank). Cleaner, cheaper, healthier.

Look, I know it's a lot to ask these folks to play their cards off the top of the deck. But even assuming the federal gas tax was 25 cents a litre (it's 10) that $1,200 a year in savings equates to 4,800 litres of gasoline consumption. The average household uses *way* less than half that.

I knew with the high gas prices that eventually they would bring this up. But they can't do it again. The savings are long gone. And Doug can't think of anything else. Gas taxes have been cut, and license plate stickers, and highway tolls. Soon he'll be sending out $200 cheques again.
