Absolutely not. There are many reasons for this including: - repossession of collateral - amortization schedules - relative size of borrowing - risks and accounting of them for holders of loans Losses? Sure. Replicating the cause of the GFC? Lol no not happening.

The wildest thing about the Hormuz crisis absolutely has to be Trump, absolutely sweaty and shaking, doing everything possible to make sure Iranian Oil goes through because he just thinks "anything that make oil go down good" not actually understanding second order effects at all.

You know what's most insane about the straight of Hormuz thing, we don't have enough ships to do it on our own but we really could do an escort mission reopening with international help. Trump has pissed off the international community so much, they'll bear the pain just to see Trump uncomfortable.

in general, people are awful at understanding composition effects say the average new home would get an “efficiency score” of 8/10 while an old home gets a 2/10. If you pass a law requiring new homes are a 9/10, but the increased costs reduce homebuilding by 25%, overall efficiency decreases

I've said it before and I'll say it again "We can't fix the Dems, we need a new viable third party" is the political equivalent of "we can't fix Earth's environment, let's colonize Mars" In that however hard the first one might be - maybe very! - the second one is orders of magnitude harder

Whenever I see someone compare inequality in the US to pre-revolutionary war France my reaction is pretty much that SMBC comic. People need to realize that the first and second estate were TAX EXEMPT. Not 'refusing to pay their fair share', EXEMPT.

America has a housing shortage. Every single housing proposal you see that is not "build more housing" will have the primary effect of pushing up the prices of existing housing, and is therefore, in reality, a plan to enrich current homeowners. In conclusion, build more housing.

Also according to the best research we have this is just blatantly, factually wrong. "In cities like SF ... new market-rate housing doesn’t reliably 'filter down.' Instead, it often accelerates upward pressure: drawing in more wealth, raising land values, and subtly remaking neighborhoods."

Also, it's backwards to think YIMBYs are deregulators & NIMBYs pro-regulation. US land-use governance is an unregulated free-for-all in which local electeds & neighborhood busybodies exercise arbitrary power. YIMBY seeks to replace that with predictable rule-based decision-making.
