Scott is still a powerful force, and makes this TV movie an all timer. Who's seen this one? Or what's your definitive Christmas Carol?

The '84 Carol has long been my fave (Muppets and Magoo follow very, very close), and Collin helps articulate why. While many others simply recite the famous lines and speed through the expected scenes, the GCS version takes the time to feel each moment and give Scrooge's arc texture and life.

It's been a while since a straightforward, live-action Christmas Carol, but George C. Scott gave us an iconic one in 1984!

It’s also snarky as fuck, which often doesn’t quite make it into adaptations. That whole opening bit about door nails and coffin nails.

“A Christmas Carol” was written strictly because Charles Dickens needed some money, but it really is Dickens at his best. Like Prince’s “Purple Rain,” it’s an example of him mastering a gift that often seemed to be mastering him.

Really enjoyed this. There are two things I personally add to any comparison - in the Marley scene. First, the line, "It is required of every man..." That touches my soul every time. But more than that, the whole, "Business??? Mankind was my business..." speech. THAT is a dealbreaker for me :D.
