If you’ve ever taken the VIA Canadian train across Northern Ontario, you’ve passed through Collins, even if you didn’t know it. The train is the main way in and out of that community. When they escape by motorboat, it’s because it’s the only way left to go.

As Adam says in the first post in the thread, "reluctant to directly attribute any one weather event to climate change". This the 3rd year in 4 I'm staying inside due to wildfire smoke, after decades of never having to do that. Hard not to see a pattern. Hard not to attribute it to climate change.

Same experience today, but now because of the smoke. Apologies for mentioning this, though, since worrying about climate change is a Trudeau-era fad that we’re supposed to have moved on from.

I’m always reluctant to directly attribute any one weather event to climate change. But Canada’s current fossil-fuel boosterism does hit a bit harder while considering whether we have to keep our 6-year-old home from the baseball camp he’s been excited about, because of potential record heat.

Idea: All Government activity in Canada must be conducted outside. Move the HoC, Legislatures, Municipal councils etc. into open air outdoor auditoriums. They can have a roof to keep out the rain. But that's it.

I was born and raised in Northern Ontario and I am absolutely boiling with rage at the ways in which people elsewhere are talking about the forest fires there as though this is a common occurrence. The air thick with smoke for kilometers, entire communities wiped out - this shit is not normal.

Something I learned about communist government is that there's a kind of soulless person who latches on to any power structure. If it is imperialism, they'll be imperialist. If it is communism, they'll be communist. It's harder in a democracy, but not as hard if there's a natural governing party.
