What if we let the voters draw up their own congressional maps and vote on them by referendum if they got enough signatures? I feel like the actual people don't want to be gerrymandered, nobody wants to win by cheating, or at least they wouldn't publicly say so.

If California takes disproportionately long to count compared to other states that actually care about ensuring its citizens can vote then that's an issue, but one reason for delay is not just the mail but the cure period for provisional ballots, and it's not something that should be too short.

4/ They have a constitutional responsibility to oppose misgovernment & abuse of power. They should NEVER abandon those principles simply for electoral advantage.

3/ And if US politicians conclude that it’s in their interest to impeach dishonest leaders, that’s good for politics too. The job of an opposition is not simply to win the next election.

2/ What they shouldn’t do is to weigh the nation’s interests against that of their party. Regardless of what happens if he is impeached, Trump is going to attack the Democrats anyway. But he would do so knowing that they were consequences for his misconduct.

1/ The Democrats shouldn’t overthink this. If they believe Trump has committed impeachable offences, they should impeach him. If they think standards in public life matter & they’re worried by their erosion, they should take any opportunity to uphold them.

I would point out that bribery is one of the enumerated grounds for impeachment under US Const. Article II, Section 4. We have tRump dead to rights on that one. Open and shut case.

My general view on impeachment is that it is Constitutionally prescribed duty, not an option. A Congressperson who takes an oath to defend the Constitution and then treats impeaching a President who is a direct threat to the Constitution as optional is violating this oath.
