Like everyone else, I loved "Atonement" but then drifted away from Ian McEwan over the following decade. Well, I just finished his latest, "What We Can Know," and I'm back on the McEwan train. It's wonderful--weird, lovely, pulpy, heartbreaking. Pure McEwan stuff.
