One of the biggest drivers of high housing costs is that a small, highly motivated group of incumbent homeowners block new housing in their neighborhoods and almost no one is organized to push back. Young people bear the brunt of that imbalance. Be a housing fan.

Last week, Montana voted to: - legalize 6-story apartments on most commercial land - sharply cut multifamily parking mandates - limit excess impact fees - cut condo defect liability - require equal treatment for manufactured homes - legalize single-stair buildings up to 6 stories statewide

If the Blue State housing deniers are correct, this will lead to: -Displacement -Rising rents -Drivers circling for parking -Increased deaths in home fires I think they are wrong, but we'll probably find out before California adopts any of these policies.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable. Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes. Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.
