New: Wikipedia has officially banned AI-generated content. After months of heated debate and previous attempts to restrict the use of LLMs, volunteer editors accepted a new policy that prohibits using them to create articles for the online encyclopedia

An unaccounted for part of the economy is how much young people virulently hate AI, despite how aggressively it's being forced on them. They realize it's making their friends dumber and ruining the world and they want nothing to do with it. From the Penn student paper:

Nice to see colleagues in college writing recognizing that gen AI in the classroom is neither inevitable nor necessarily beneficial--as the research increasingly shows, quite the reverse!

If you're a researcher in Norway who is concerned with the uncritical implementation of LLMs in universities, please consider signing the petition Maria Danielsen, Knut Ărke and Holger PĂśtzsch at UiT have written. I wrote more about the background on my blog.

Yes, thatâs the issue. Iâve been trying to find a way to articulate this: to the extent that LLMs serve a purpose in education, itâs an indictment of the education system, not a praiseworthy feature of LLMs.
