I worked with someone at the Bucks who was AMAZING at this - his hit rate on non-first round prospects was pretty astounding and while being the freak that was willing to grind to find them was a huge part of it, there was tremendous skill in deciphering whose talents would translate to NBA level.

A tangent, but I frequently worry that the main real-world impact of analytics and “moneyballing” everything has been the inexorable rise of execs and other elites thinking they’ve derived formulas for successful action and then trying to duplicate the form with none of the substance.

This is a close relative of analytics being described as “made up stats”when my dudes aside from the scoreboard they’re all made up.

I know Cena’s last match was great because I was able to watch my middle-schooler who is just getting into wrestling watch. It was her first “big” wrestling moment. From the opening bell they had her. She literally fell on the floor after 1 of the false finishes. Truly great parenting experience.
