Tonight is Rosh Hashanah, the new year. It is a time we begin reflecting on the year (leading up to Yom Kippur) and wishing for sweetness in the new one. I gave my heart and soul to that place. Built entire sections for journalists pushed out of their home countries. When the writer I hired, Jamal Khashoggi was murdered by Saudi Arabia, they paraded me around as a symbol for press freedom. I put MY LIFE on the line to defend journalism and WaPo.

I appreciate this piece so much, because “free speech” has become a meaningless phrase in America, deployed by fascists at will to support whatever their violent agenda-of-the-day is. We must continue to find new language and make meaningful art 💙

I am horrified to hear of the shooting at Evergreen High School near Denver today. Thank you to our law enforcement officers for their swift response to this tragedy. I will continue to monitor the situation closely & think of Evergreen's teachers & students in the wake of this senseless violence.

Has my MS been rejected 51 times (5 in the last two weeks)? Yes. Did I submit it again tonight for the 56th time (4 future rejections still pending)? Also, yes. It has also been a semifinalist and finalist 3 times at pretty great places, too..............

I (Mitch) could only listen to tonight's event while at my son's baseball practice, which means I missed the exact wording, but I need you all to know that earlier tonight NAWP was declared something like Poetry's Pajama Party, which is rad.
