It would certainly result in a drop in value of existing homes where say it's a single family home and say a 17-story unit is going in next door and your yard doesn't get sun anymore and 300 people can peer through your windows.

I know plenty of YIMBYs who have advocated for housing in their own backyards. There is also no empirical evidence that adding homes to a neighborhood causes a big drop in the value of existing homes.
