In Berlin, the Linke has the highest vote share and the SPD came fifth. SPD did not win a single district.

I celebrate the 80% of Germans who did not vote for the far right. Do not make 19.6% of German voters into "the" German people (again). "The" German people don't exist! The German population is diverse and divided, but voted overwhelmingly for liberal democratic parties. #BTW25 #GermanElection

German public TV just published this poll of first-time voters. A massive lead for socialist Left party on 27%. Left + SPD + Greens on 54% among first-time-voters. Those voters were also slightly less likely to vote AfD than national average. So much for the “far-right youth”.

Whatever insane nonsense Trump spews that the media will chase like cats chasing a laser light is a distraction. The only story that counts right now is the wholesale hijacking of control of the US government.

Merz takes a big gamble when exploiting the lack of clear majorities in the German parliament today. Instead of forging a consensus with future partners in government, he prompts new red lines. Might backfire badly and not even win the votes he hopes for.
