Yesterday I attended orientation as a faculty member a few miles from the childhood home and in the city I was born and raised. Someone on the FIU Law team caught the exact moment I introduced myself to students and said "I am from right here in Miami." I am so lucky I get to serve this community.

On terminology: I won't use "Alligator Alcatraz." Alcatraz was a prison. This place will be used to hold migrants with no criminal record or who did their time, potentially decades earlier. E.g., the 75-year-old who just died in ICE custody was a "criminal." Why? Caught moving weed in the 1980s.

This is *insane*. According to Alito in Mahmoud, in a PICTURE BOOK for CHILDREN, if you show a same-sex wedding without including people objecting to the (legal, constitutionally protected) existence of marriage equality, that violates the religious rights of parents whose kids might read the book.

NEW: NSF will be kicked out of their building. Announcement will be made tomorrow by HUD Sec. and Governor of VA. HUD will take over the NSF building over the next two years. NSF staffer: "There is no planning for NSF, no identified future location, appropriation for a new building or a move."
