ACTION ALERT: Tell city council to reject the ordinance to ban camping on city property! On Tuesday, September 2nd (tomorrow!), City Council will be considering an ordinance that would make it illegal to sleep on city property or to leave personal property unattended on city land. 🧵

This proposed ordinance is abjectly terrible for many reasons, but as someone who cares a whole awful lot about bike and ped safety, I call BULLSHIT on the police chief saying we need to criminalize homelessness “to ensure accessibility for pedestrians.”

Our Board of Directors endorses Jen Fleisher for City Council! Jen has extensive public health/public policy experience and **crucially, she is the ONLY candidate in the race who opposes FLOCK surveillance cameras.** These are being abused by ICE and local police to target marginalized people.

FBI agents are now visiting Charlottesville’s public defenders *at their homes*. It’s naked intimidation of our justice system.

This new bond effort is expanding the $ goal after the community came together a few weeks ago to post its first bond and free a man held for weeks in detention and losing hope. There are still more folks in detention. There is more we can do to help. Please give if you can!
