Back in 2018 I estimated that adding curb bulbouts at every every intersection in Seattle's single-family zones would make room for 160,000 trees. It would also make those intersections safer. Great to see this idea getting some attention in Coucil. www.sightline.org/2018/09/06/s...

We would love to see this in Charlottesville

“Architectural determinism is poor family policy.” The Charlottesville Area is great for families (with or without children) in many ways, but often only for those with significant means to buy in. The city and county need to work to make more affordable, family friendly housing options available.

Housing, transportation, and economic security can’t be separated from each other. For too long, Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and UVA have been fine with pushing workers into surrounding counties to the benefit of no one.

We long contended the anti-zoning code lawsuit was a bad faith undermining of democratic processes. We believed the plaintiffs had little interest in transportation management and an almost hysterical fear of modest change in their neighborhoods. Now their allies are publicly saying the same thing.

We have believed from the beginning that the new zoning code is a major step forward for the city’s efforts to address its affordable housing crisis. And we are thrilled to see that the absurd, bad faith lawsuit has been resolved. We look forward to what lies ahead - plenty of work still to do!

We are saddened to hear of another pedestrian fatality in Charlottesville. We must design our community’s transportation infrastructure so that everyone is safe regardless of their mode of transportation.
