7am finance committee meetings lead to a bit of doodling. As a general rule tax credit bills are not approved because they are rarely shown to incentivize or change behavior (they mainly reward existing behavior). Better to work towards a comprehensive progressive tax code than piecemeal fixes.

First bill out of the House! Charlottesville advocates have been fighting for this since 2023, and I’m proud to have successfully carried it through the House (along with 3 other localities Fredericksburg, Falls Church and Newport News). On to the Senate!

Talking to folks engaged in our democratic process is a highlight of my job. Especially seeing familiar faces from home! These executive orders and memos to ICE are a travesty. I have a bill to prevent ICE activity in courthouses without a judicial warrant and some identification (HB650). I didn’t know we’d need to do the same thing for private homes and hospitals.

A constituent forward me a letter from their landlord. It said they expected they’d have to raise rents if democratic housing bills passed. Specifically they referenced my HB 281 which allows a tenant to use the defense of warranty of habitability for nonpayment of rent

Here’s the thing: Any internal candidate who wanted to serve well would have asked to delay. Why burden yourself with that baggage? Darden students — put revealed preference to work: what did you just learn about this leader?
