Reading in āMaster of the Senateā about how Thomas Jefferson tried to purge Federalists from the judiciary. So I guess the Jefferson Council is carrying on that part of TJās tradition too, besides the whole racism thing.

My brother-in-law lives in Brooklyn and is always quick to point this out. The DSA in NYC has been effectively organizing and getting people elected for a decade. Mamdani is a generational talent and the DSA infrastructure positioned him to succeed.

It looks like New Yorkers just passed all three pro-housing charter amendments on the ballot. The mandate is clear: it's time to build more housing.

UVAās Emergency Alerts are in function about creating a perception of safety rather than safety, but in the most stressful and ineffective way possible. And this logic is so tortured as to be non-sensical.

Parenting is always full of discoveries. A recent one is figuring out which of our kids have a sense of direction. One is a good navigator, another yells āyouāre going the wrong wayā as we turn into our destination. The third is somewhere in between.

Thinking about Payment in Lieu of Taxes. Two key points: 1) the largest group most negatively impacted by UVA not paying real estate tax are UVAās own employees 2) it will take action by legislature to get state universities appropriately compensate municipalities for lost revenue/opportunity

Virginia Democrats attempt to redraw congressional maps ahead of the Nov. 4 election
Two votes would be needed to pass such an amendment ā one this week, and another after Jan. 14, 2026 once the newly elected delegates have taken their seats.

āArchitectural determinism is poor family policy.ā The Charlottesville Area is great for families (with or without children) in many ways, but often only for those with significant means to buy in. The city and county need to work to make more affordable, family friendly housing options available.
