After a few weeks of much needed rest (more than I realized I needed), I’m back at it! Went to my first real BOS meeting and was so excited that they passed a by-right solar ordinance - and then today got to check out the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and it was intense! Really well done organization!

You wouldn’t know it from this picture but Daryn’s class on evangelicalism was probably the most emotionally difficult class I took at UVA 😅. (also the way the other students turned to look at me when I asked on the first day what his experience with it was 👀😂)

We were not home last night, but have lived on Orangedale for 11 years. Until last night’s tragedy, the 4th of July on Orangedale there has been an amazing community event - a highlight of the year - where the street becomes a place of gathering, joy, belonging (and noise) for hundreds of people.

I’m still working out how to do this, but one of the things I would like to do as Supervisor is to make my process of governance more accessible to people.

More than a thousand new homes have quietly slipped into Portland’s single-family neighborhoods over the past two years—and most people haven’t even noticed. That’s by design. These aren’t skyscrapers or subdivisions on the outskirts of town.

We need local leaders who will do everything they can to resist ingraining immigration enforcement into our local law enforcement. We need 0% cooperation with ICE and no detention centers in our area. We also need to support our immigrant, refugee, and Hispanic communities as well as legal aid.

Took a tour of Southwood today and learned so much about what a unique development it is, how community focused it has been, and what a great mix of commercial & residential and mixed-income.

The great thing about local government is you get to work, and even fight, alongside your neighbors. Really proud that my constituents include UVA students and I am committed to supporting them in their efforts against fascism and re-segregation.

The path for Democrats is very clear: have good ideas, believe in them, state them clearly, stick to them, act decisively in support of these ideas, speak to the young half of the electorate, support other democrats who do these things. Follow Mamdani and Lander's example or fade into nothingness.
