As expected: drought monitor has gotten worse since last week and now all of central Virginia and the CBS19 viewing area is under severe drought conditions.

Thursday's record high for Charlottesville is 92°/1976. We'll fall a few degrees short but it will be another hot day with tolerable humidity levels.

And there it is! We set a new record high for today in Charlottesville of 88°, breaking the old mark of 87° set in 1960.

A few rain showers could pop up Tuesday after 2pm in central Virginia, but the bulk of the region will stay dry. The record high for Tuesday in Charlottesville is 87° set in 1960.

Tonight: chilly, but not cold. Friday: about 15° warmer than today.

*Freeze warning* in effect for all in central VA except the mountains between 2-9am Wednesday; temps below freezing for several hours will damage plants & tender vegetation. Cover plants & bring the pets inside, too! Wednesday overall: just like Tuesday, but less breezy.

Lows for most tonight will be in the lower 40s. Sunshine and highs in the lower 60s are expected Tuesday. A *freeze watch* will be in effect for all except the elevations Tuesday night for the potential of below freezing temperatures for several hours, damaging plants/tender vegetation.

Temperatures tonight will fall into the upper 30s & lower 40s in central Virginia. Expect plenty of sunshine on Monday with more seasonable temperatures. Pollen counts will be rough for not just the short-term but also the longer-term: no rain is in the 7-day forecast.

Overnight lows will be in the lower to middle 50s for central Virginia. The weather for Friday AND Saturday will be similar to today: sun/cloud mix, random PM showers, highs in the lower to middle 80s, very high tree pollen counts, and moderate grass pollen counts.

Heads up, Madison: no severe thunderstorm warning on this thunderstorm to your west, but it’s heading your way and may bring small hail.

Severe-warned storm over Peaks of Otter (west of Lynchburg) is moving east at 25mph. Quarter-sized hail has been reported with this storm. Heads up: Gladstone, southern Buckingham County.

Central Virginia is under a *slight risk* (2/5) for severe storms this afternoon. Timeline: 2-7pm. Threats from greatest to least concern: damaging straight-line winds, small hail. Tornado threat is very low. I won't be on air today due to major dental work but will provide updates here.

Showers and thunderstorms will be possible bwtween 1pm-7pm Wednesday in central Virginia. Storms are not expected to be severe in this area but could still produce locally heavy rain. It will be warm once again, but not record-breaking warmth.

Temepratures will be mild overnight. Highs on Tuesday will be roughly 15-20° warmer than Monday. An isolated shower may pop up later in the afternoon but most everyone in central Virginia will stay dry.

It will be a very warm week but the only day Charlottesville will come close to its daily record high will be Wednesday.

It will be a chilly, breezy Saturday morning for the Charlottesville Ten Miler and it will remain cool in the afternoon. Temperatures will warm Sunday and reach the 70s and 80s early next week. Some decent rain (>0.25") could fall next Monday afternoon.

Rain is moving slowly across central Virginia right now. It should be mostly gone by 9pm. Following will be a breezy, cool Saturday and a seasonable Sunday. Both days of the weekend will have a healthy dose of sunshine and tree pollen.

Spring in Charlottesville is colorful. I approve.

Cloudier skies will keep most overnight low temperatures above freezing in central Virginia. Wednesday will see more clouds than sunshine but it will be warmer than Tuesday and more seasonable.

Overnight lows will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Overall skies will be mostly sunny on Tuesday with highs only in the lower to middle 50s. Like your days warmer? Highs will return to the 60s on Wednesday and they will be even warmer on Thursday.

Sunday's high of 88° in Charlottesville was a record for the date surpassing the old mark of 86° set in 1966. Colder air is now on the move and temperatures will be falling throughout this afternoon. Overnight lows will end up near freezing.

When in Hampton Roads…

A few showers will linger into the overnight but skies will be a mix of sun and clouds for Saturday as high temperatures push into the middle 70s. Sunday will be even warmer!

Temepratures for most overnight will be at or above freezing. Friday will be warmer with highs near 70°; clouds will thicken after noon and some rain showers will be possible around evening-drive. Temperatures will get even warmer this weekend.

True to expectation the updated state drought monitor has expanded the severe drought area west into the Shenandoah Valley. We need a lot more rain or else central Virginia could be in for a very rough summer.

Not as cold tonight with lows in the upper 20s and lower 30s; sunshine will give way to a few afternoon clouds on Thursday (the last day of winter) with seasonable temperatures. Spring begins at 10:46am EDT on Friday.
