Only modification I'd make to this map with regard to central VA snowfall is the Blue Ridge Mountains (Skyline/BRP/Wintergreen/Afton) will see more than 1-3"; I wouldn't be shocked if some got over six inches. Rest of the CBS19 viewing area should see an inch or less snow accumulation.

Most of what falls on central Virginia on Sunday will be rain. Rain will change to snow showers after sunset as colder air is pulled in behind the storm. Precipitation ends before midnight Monday. This should be a low-impact storm for most but roads may be slick in spots Monday morning.

Temepratures will stay somewhat mild into the weekend but will slide coming out of it. I'm not entirely convinced we see snow this weekend in central Virginia but the prospects aren't being entirely elimintated. Stay tuned.

State drought monitor for central Virginia remains unchanged with almost the entire area under severe drought conditions. This is a far better gauge of our drought versus climate numbers as this method analyzes soil moisture and snow melt. Despite what snow melt we've had, we still need more rain!

Alright, central Virginia friends. Storm trends keep going south (literally). I'm thinking anyone that sees an inch or more snow accumulation Saturday will be along & south of U.S. Route 60 in Nelson & Buckingham Counties. It's entirely possible some in the area don't even see a single flake.

Trend of weekend storm keeps going south which means less snow for central Virginia. Still a nuisance storm if anything but the highest accumulations will be closer to the VA/NC border.

*First run at a snowfall map for snow from Saturday morning to late Saturday night: Between 1-3" of light, fluffy snow for central Virginia with higher amounts south of US Highway 60; this storm will be all snow with no sleet or ice. Forecast adjustments are possible in the days ahead.

1) Cold weather advisory in effect again tonight: wind chills down to 0° for central VA, -12° for the mountains. 2) Daytime highs will ease from now into the weekend. 3) Will we get snow this weekend? I'm not entirely convinced we will but I'm not giving a definitive "no" just yet.

1) We could break several record lows in the days ahead. 2) Wind chills tonight at times down to -10° for most, -15° for C'ville + Albemarle & Nelson, -25° for mountains & the Valley. Dress warmly and bring the pets inside! 3) Could we get more snow this weekend? Possibly.

The bulk of the precipitation is done falling in central Virginia. Now, the cold will be taking over. Surfaces are becoming VERY slick.

Freezing rain (no sleet) is falling outside our Rio Road studio as of 4:27pm.

I believe it. Sleet falls hard enough, pulls warm air from aloft down to make a shallower cold layer, therefore increasing chance of freezing rain. That's why this last *wave* of moisture concerns me so much.

The moisture won't, sadly. And my big concern is that final burst of moisture is what brings us freezing rain/ice in central Virginia. I'm watching it closely.

Adjustments made to snow/sleet & ice maps: 1) 6-10" snow/sleet for most, 10"+ in mountains (amounts lower than previous). 2) Ice amounts lower north of Madison / VA highway 3 toward DC. Everyone else unchanged; highest totals toward Richmond/I-85. 3) **Sub-freezing temps last all next week!**

Powdery snow to start, changing to a wet snow before a mix/changeover to sleet and freezing rain.

Quick Saturday morning update: current central Virginia forecast of 8-12" snow & sleet / ¼-½" ice holds, but thinking more toward lower end of both scales. Changeover from snow to sleet/fz. rain will ultimately determine how much accumulation we get. Still gonna be a mess for the Mid-Atlantic.

Two thoughts regarding the weekend before I sign off for the night. One, given current trends highest snowfall totals would be north of C'ville. Two, there are increasing signs this storm will feature sleet and/or freezing rain, especially south of C'ville. Lower snow totals would result. G'night.

If my records are correct, the last time Charlottesville saw more than a foot of snow in one storm was December 9, 2018 (12.9" at McCormick Observatory).
