No wonder kids these days are spending their time playing PSP roms; modern hardware is unaffordable. Absolutely wild that I actually saved money by buying all of my consoles at launch. Of course, I bought most of them when the economy wasn't run by the idiot who bankrupted a casino

I think people are going to genuinely laugh in Sony and Microsoft's face if they try to sell a next-gen console.

just this week: -- OpenAI killed Sora -- Disney subsequently cancelled its investment in OpenAI -- Wikipedia is now banning LLM-generated content ...tell me again how this is all "inevitable" and you have to "get on board or get left behind"?

Here's the whole thread on my honest thoughts about Hanna-Barbera. There's a reason why I'm a H-B diehard and it not just because I grew up with their stuff.

To this very day, I thank Hanna-Barbera for being the major inspiration that made me become a cartoonist in the first place. There's more to it than just liking their stuff. It's also appreciating what the studio had done for animation and learning about their history.

Hanna-Barbera had pioneered action cartoons, prime time cartoons, edgy adult cartoons, and even stuff like digital ink and paint. They were much more than the studio that made cheap cartoons. They were the studio who took risks and tired new things.

If it weren't for Hanna-Barbera, shows like SpongeBob would NEVER exist at all. I mean that literally, SpongeBob wouldn't be made if Hanna-Barbera had never pioneered television animation production.

I'm fully aware and had seen the duds Hanna-Barbera made in their later years, but you can't deny that they saved the American animation industry from total collapse in the late 1950s.

Disney had laid off animators after Sleeping Beauty bombed at the box office. Those animators went to Hanna-Barbera, as the studio was actively hiring animators at the time. Their livelihoods were saved by them.

Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera had taken a HUGE gamble and risked their careers when they founded their studio in 1957. They didn't know it at the time, but they had SAVED a lot of people's livelihoods in the field. It also had opened new opportunities for newcomers in the industry.

You know, I really wish people started seeing Hanna-Barbera as "the studio that saved the goddamn American animation industry from collapse and revolutionized a new animation industry". But most will just see them as "the studio that made cheap cartoons". Hanna-Barbera was much more than that.

These two guys had risked their career and reputation from opening their own independent studio back in 1957. Little did they know that it would blossom into a powerhouse and their legacy would transcend generations.

Gene Shalit made it to the Century mark. Only "Today Show" alum to reach the Smuckers mark, Willard didn't even make it into his 90s. When you got that legendary hair and 'stache combo, which still looks good in silver, you must have some magical powers or something...

Cloud OpenAI Sora 2025-2026 Late into its run, the AI video slop generator Sora was symbolised by a sparkly-eyed cloud, shaped like OpenAI's 'blossom' logo. Before he could decide on what to name this mascot, Sam Altman terminated the failing platform and a deal with Disney along with it.
