I bought this this morning and I’m over half way through it. Probably the best $25 I’ve spent in years. I use web components for my blog posts and have known for a while that there are big gaps in my knowledge, and this has filled a whole bunch of them.

I've also been realizing how much I'm borrowing from CSS's cascade conceptually. Oaken is really just Cascading Setup Scripts.

Once you realize the web is really just a giant game / graphics engine that gives you a DSL for content, and a DSL for styling, and a scripting language for anything extra...it all kinda starts to make sense. the "scripting" language is the escape hatch for the cases the DSLs can't handle.

I've had this super weird idea for a while...could I build a useful/functional Rails app that doesn't use any words in it's UI? I just registered wordless.fyi and I'm thinking about trying to build it this weekend...should I livestream it?

Ages ago, when I was still a student, I taught myself Ruby on Rails for my senior thesis and fell in love. Fifteen years later, and I’ve used Rails at every job I’ve ever held in the tech industry. Fifteen years, and I still love Rails! But there’s something rotten at its core, and we share a name.

The easiest way to get an infinite counter in Ruby: counter = (0..).each Then call `counter.next` as many times as you need. Useful in test data setups.

When Open Source goes well, you don't necessarily hear that much from users because things are fine, so I like to track gem downloads just to see what's going on. Looks like Associated Objects & Performs have both doubled, Stashed Redirects have been picking up, and Oaken's almost quadrupled!
