I'm not checking every single one of these races but I know at least one of these candidates, Marie Glussenkamp Perez, still has a primary to win before November and could end up off the ballot if enough people back one of her opponents

Atop every flag pole in the United States rests one of the silver spheres from Phantasm, just waiting to be unleashed. This is our ultimate weapon. Our great plan to deter the Soviets from invading and stealing all of our very cool and good flags.

This is bone-chilling. A conservative hedge fund manager wants to require little girls to pass genital inspections for their “safety.” And it’s only for girls’ sports. There’s a clear link between transphobia and child sexual abuse.

I keep seeing people thinking this is a bluesky problem. If you're seeing this it thinks you're in a state or country with age verification laws. This is what every social media site will do if KOSA and the KIDS Act succeeds. Running to another socmed won't fix it, we have to fight the source.

An update on the KIDS Act: the package of censorship and surveillance "kids safety" bills that Congress rushed to a vote, passed out of the House last night on a 267-117 vote (with 47 members not voting). This is bad news, but not the end of the road. KOSA is not law yet.

The second stupidest part of this is that they did in fact anticipate this. The Senate debated the issue of Chinese people overrunning the US when debating the amendment in 1866. Rep. Luna here is making the same argument that Sen. Edgar Cowan made 160 years ago.

Matthew Vines is way too young to be making this argument. He's never lived in a world where groups like Queer Nation and slogans like, "we're here, we're queer, get used to it," didn't exist, and being raised fundy doesn't explain it because fundies loved to complain about those things.

People, for the love of God, please stop treating birthright as some kind of sweeping victory. It was 5-4 on the constitutional issue. The dissent laid out a fucking ROADMAP for what Trump should do next. The court always gives Trump multiple bites at the apple WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU HAPPY ABOUT?

Second apparently this was a close case for this Court. As it stands the decision is 6-3. In 1898 the Court’s decision protecting birthright citizenship, Won Kim Ark v. U.S., was 6-2. That means this SCOTUS is either on par w/or to the right of the 1898 Court - the same SCOTUS that decided Plessy!

The court held that "sex" in Title IX refers to "biological sex" but then doesn't define it. Is it DNA? Endogenous hormone profile? Gametes? Primary sex characteristics? Those can all be incongruous.

The aftermath: Expect the Department of Education to try to implement a national trans sports and bathroom ban by arguing that Title IX requires it. The EEOC may follow suit with similar regulations under Title VII. This decision does not support those readings but Trump admin will try.

If the problem is that the platforms are acting as orwellian panopticons and not that people are communicating over the internet, then we should be regulating how platforms retain and share user data and also how ai services especially, such as claude, chatgpt, gemini, grok, etc retain and share it.
