Today at 3 PM, members of the Erie County Historical Commission, Buffalo Maritime Center and U.S. Lighthouse Society will hold a remembrance program on the 50th anniversary of the loss of the Edmund Fitzgerald. While the ship was not based in Buffalo, it docked in local facilities often.

Nobody in the press gets a medal for Charlie Kirk coverage, in my mind. His statements have been grossly distorted, the purported motives of his killer hastily ascribed, and public statements from officials swallowed whole without much verification, some of which turned out to be wrong.

if I were writing stories about the gov "firing thousands of probationary workers" I would probably rewrite as "firing thousands of new hires -- who are often on a status called "probation" --" because I think the general understanding of "probation" is "in trouble for something they did"
