I've worked with Tonawanda Supervisor Joe Emminger throughout his town tenure, first as a board member and then supervisor. He has always been a steady hand at the helm, and the town and county have benefited from his leadership. I wish him well following his announcement he will retire next month.

Crystal Peoples-Stokes has always been a strong advocate for her community and has represented their concerns at every level. I thank her for her many years of service, first as a county legislator and then as an assembly person and majority leader, and I wish her well in her retirement.

Floods are some of the most damaging natural disasters, and they can tragically take lives. Never drive around barricades and enter a flooded area and always take seriously flood warnings. Barricades are there for your safety. Never enter a flooded road. It might be the worst decision of your life.

I was in Springville for an event and made the drive to Gowanda to check on yesterday's storm damage. Golf ball sized hail dented cars and broke the windows at the Town Hall in Persia on the Cattaraugus portion of Gowanda, as well as caused other property damage. Thankfully the flooding was minor.
