The NSF Bio Anthro Program DDRIG, Cultural Anthrpology DDRIG, and Archaeology DDRIG have all been archived (as of yesterday afternoon). Please speak with your grad students and plan accordingly. To say I am angry and depressed about this is an understatement.

I'm happy to announce this short OA piece about a small but fossil site formerly called "Meswa Bridge." This came about through collaboration with local officials and wonderful interactions with the Tonde community.

The application deadline for these has been extended (due to them being open an unreasonably short time initially, not b/c we got too few applications). Dust off your CV, friends. 🧪⚒️

This might be my favourite of these. And the comments... someone put the monkey-jesus fresco on the list and I died. At least something positive coming from the NYT STILL giving Ross Douthat a platform.

My university’s Office of Teaching and Learning is offering a workshop on how to “leverage” Generative AI to develop lecture content. The thought of it makes me ill and I am tired of being quiet on social media about how this insidious, environmentally-destructive cult is being so blindly embraced.

It's so weird how LLMs know so much about things I don't know anything about, and yet make fundamental and basic errors about things I do know anything about. Oh well, I'm sure that's a coincidence.
