Just saw the footage of the five party leaders standing shoulder to shoulder, alongside locals, at the memorial in Tumbler Ridge, a small town I've been to many times. I think it's good we have a country where a moment like this can occur. I think we should strive so moments like this don't need to.

This is my great great aunt, an early legend of Tumbler Ridge. In a family history book she moved to Dawson Creek to be a “lady,” “but those who wee close to her knew better.” It also reads “she fabricated her age so often I sometimes wonder if she knew herself.”

CBC’s coverage has been comprehensive and compassionate. Other news outlets just peppered this story in between their usual news hour stories. This is a national tragedy. We are all thinking about this small community tonight.
