Blasting off from Earth, spending 6 days getting to the moon, historic lunar flyby, going further than any human before, falling back to earth at 40,000 km/h, being busted out of the Integrity vessel, hoisted by helicopter…all the blood, sweat, tears and hard work to get here. Humanity at its best.

WHAT! Apparently a piece of the Wright Brothers' plane (first powered flight in 1903) is on the Artemis II's Orion spacecraft! It's a 1 square inch swath of muslin fabric on loan from the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum. 🥺

The new images from the Artemis II mission are amazing, but the Pale Blue Dot will always do it for me. Taken by Voyager 1 on February 14th 1990, Voyager took turned its camera around for one last look at Earth as it exited our Solar System. Carl Sagan's commentary on it is great too.

Communication blackout now begins. For about 40 minutes, the Artemis II crew will be out of radio communication with the teams at NASA as it flies behind the Moon. "We are still able to feel the love from Earth. And to all of you down on Earth, we love you from the Moon."

Perhaps the most human moment so far. The crew proposed names of 2 craters. The first - Integrity, for their spacecraft. The second - Carroll, in memory of the wife of Mission Commander Reid Wiseman. "We lost a loved one. Her name was Carroll. The spouse of Reid. The mother of Katie & Ellie"

From the cabin of Integrity: "We will continue our journey even further into space before Mother Earth succeeds in pulling us back to everything we hold dear. We most importantly choose this moment to challenge this generation and the next to make sure this record is not long lived."
