It's true there are sustainability problems with S2O, but there is with virtually all academic publishing. Why not strategically invest in a more sustainable alternative - the end game of which might be that the money doesn't come from the library and those budgets shrink accordingly

Some great starter packs threaded here - thanks @rschrobuk.bsky.social! This is such an interesting platform and I'm really enjoying getting to know its features. Q: how does one know that one has been added to a starter pack? No notification and no way to check, AFAICS.

One important motivation for open access was the lack of transparency from publishers around subscription prices, but it sounds like they're being just as opaque with APCs. This is a really helpful piece of work showing the huge sums paid to commercial publishers in APCs.
