The top-down approaches in the OS space are pushing researchers away & damaging the movement. It's sad to see organisations that were once community beacons turning to this approach instead. It's a huge mistake. We should work with researchers & evidence - not push them away in favour of opinions

Ons thing that's really bugging me about the "PhD level intelligence" is that a PhD isn't a measure of intelligence, it's a measure of commitment to study and specialisation in a narrow field (and opportunity to do so). "PhD level intelligence" isn't really a meaningful phrase

Excellent move! And since these journals are community-owned, they would pass the Diamond OA test of the Diamond Discovery Hub at the European Diamond Capacity Hub as long as library participation holds @eudch.bsky.social

What's different about this idea and PlanS? PlanS required publishers to cooperate, giving them leverage in the new system. Funders stipulating all work published in non-profits requires authors to follow funder guidelines, but doesn't involve publishers in the slightest. That's why this can work.

Fully agree with Rebecca Lawrence that "the research assessment ecosystem hinders innovative publication models that address our biggest problems in research". The other way around, I would argue that a failure to innovate scientific publishing also hinders reform of research assessment.
