Red alert for the big bill blocking state tech laws! There’s a new draft of the AI moratorium and it’s WORSE. The exceptions narrowed so “generally applicable” laws only survive if they do not create an “undue OR disproportionate burden” on AI. This creates huge uncertainty for which laws survive.

The so-called AI moratorium will block any state law directed at regulating any form of computing, not just AI, bc they wrote it to be broad. Consumer protection, privacy, online safety, civil rights, revenge porn, fraud and cybercrime. They’re all on the chopping block if this provision stays in.

The courts are not coming to save us. There is no "one weird trick" to building an inclusive, equal, better world in a democracy: it requires building movements and winning control of the levers of power through elections. It requires persuading people, changing minds, mobilizing, and winning votes.
