James Talarico is developing a new kind of politics for the era of Late Stage Trumpism. He treats it as fundamental that Trump/MAGA are wrecking our civic life at a profound moral and spiritual level. His message: A better society, a better future, is possible.

A "vegan" that eats eggs on a lard-filled flour tortilla. Ah, yes. They really got him on that one. Not to mention that the Talarico Texas BBQ tour is going to be awesome.

He sure did. That era also makes me recall how then-Gov. Bush worked across the aisle with Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock and House Speaker Pete Laney to get things done in Texas. Ah, the good ol' days.

I took some time today to read posts on the Cornyn loss from folks like
@stuartpstevens.bsky.social
@billkristolbulwark.bsky.social
@sykescharlie.bsky.social
and Michael Wood, among others. I spoke to a few Texas GOP friends and colleagues for their take and sharing my two cents, as well.

This plan is actively *insane.* Airlines cannot divert large numbers of international flights from one city to another; they'd just have to cancel flights en masse, causing enormous economic damage that splashed waaaaay beyond a few big cities that were the target.

*I have no prediction on today or Nov. Just a reminder: TX turnout is bad, primary turnout worse, primary runoff abysmal. (Total turnout in the 2022 Paxton/GP Bush AG runoff was 5.4%.) R primary + runoff voters tend to be further right than general election-only voters. *See above. No prediction.

Terrific polemic by one Texan, Michael Wood, about another, John Cornyn: "The difference is courage and patriotism. These men without chests, as C.S. Lewis would call them, are not nimble or smart. They are cowards, and I for one will not let them forget it."
