And whenever someone suggests an idea that might actually IMPROVE the systemic problem, however slightly, they are shouted down with "NO! SYSTEMIC PROBLEM BAD! BAND-AID NOT GOOD ENOUGH!" So nothing gets done and often things get much worse.

A huge part of the problem with basically everything is that the only people who care enough to fix systemic issues, have no fucking idea how. They keep hammering on "systemic problem bad" with no plan whatsoever to replace it with something known to be better.

What makes this issue more frustrating is the fact that way too many IPs depend on success, but end up with something even dedicated fans are unsure why they love these games so much. Every version has its place. I still believe that. That's why it's more important to make the original accessible.

It’s a bit of a reciprocal argument with “voting for Kamala wouldn’t have been necessary if x” but let’s speed run: x happened years before so public options to avoid this were limited to voting. Someone can resent that limitation all they want, but the option to avoid worse was still on the table.

In context, this is one of the worst moments in iCarly, but as a SNAP beneficiary who will be affected by this, I will legitimately feel the urge to do this to any faux-progressive in 2028 who says the Democratic nominee isn’t “inspiring” enough or hasn’t said or done anything to “earn” their vote.

I've been saying this since before the shutdown began: the GOP had a pretty strong bargaining position but a) Trump dominating politics means he gets the blame and b) the Vought stuff with RIFs and going after "Democrat programs" and blue states grants makes them the central villains of the piece.

I’m sort of offended by the “everybody’s twelve” theory on behalf of a couple of groups: 1. Liberals, who consistently behave like adults and get nothing but yelled at for it, and 2. 12-year-olds, because I’ve known some quite sensible ones.

Elected Dems have moved to the left since 2012! (true, but largely attributable to retirements and electoral defeats of some old moderates, particularly in the Senate.) And Republicans have, uh, only gotten more extreme in some ways? They've totally moderated on issues like abortion. (Wait. What?)

Okay, let's get into the text... Here are their bullet point recommendations: Talk about the economy! Don't talk about immigrants or climate or "social issues!" Criticize the ultra-wealthy, but in a very-not-socialist sort of way! This is... just popularism? Didn't we already do this?

(6) This idea that democrats should abandon trans people and immigrants and climate change (in 2025!) is just unconscionably dumb. Declaring “I’m focused on prescription drug prices” sounds like pandering because it IS pandering. Everyone can tell. Try standing for something. See how it feels.

(5) Stop with the fucking “kitchen table issues!” Yes, people respond well to that line experimentally. But if they actually acted on it then Donald fucking Trump wouldn’t be president right now. Try to have the faintest clue of what sort of apparatus his party network has actually built!

(4) Trump and the Republicans don't have an advantage over Democrats because they *better understand heartland Americans.* They have an advantage over Democrats because they created their own universe of propaganda outlets, and then went out and bought all the mainstream outlets. Duh.

(3) Pollsters like to test messages with captured audiences who are being paid to pay attention. That isn’t reality. It’s pretend. No such circumstances exist outside of their experimental settings. The fight over attention is the central fulcrum point of contemporary politics.

(2) People also don’t form impressions of the party based on canned answers, policy briefs or stump speeches. Their impressions come from stories they hear as background noise. If you want those stories to resonate, they have to be coherent, and you need to invest in media organization.

(1) People do not form their opinions of the Democratic Party by reading the party platform. What percentage of the public do you believe has any clue what is in the Democratic Party platform? I’ll give you a hint: it is lower than whatever number you just thought of.

They don't have an answer, because they don't ask the question. It is 2025. If you are a Democratic Party operative in 2025 and you aren't even looking into media ownership and propaganda effects, then you are either a conman or a mark.

All of us know what the first song played on MTV was, but none of us saw it because it was on one local cable station in New Jersey at fucking midnight. We pine for hidden gold.
