I think this is why, in a time when we are facing a litany of legal and societal threats worse than they've ever been, Harry Potter and JKR are still something we focus on. It was the canary in the coal mine for mainstream transphobia and it's impossible to get over how many folks don't care

There's a lot of different factors that led to the transphobic hell spiral we are currently facing but I would argue the single most prominent one was Rowling making her entire identity transphobia, normalizing the stance, and facing basically zero consequences or serious backlash
