“This measure passed by higher margins than many of us sitting up here on the dais..., and it’s a bizarre way to look at it, that we’re going to only trust the voter when they give us power, when they give us office, but we’re not going to trust them when it comes to an issue that we disagree with.”

The fact that if I ran for local office and won, I would have to take a pay cut to manage a $1.3 billion budget and make decisions that directly impact the well-being of half a million people is kind of insane. Unpopular but true: we under-pay our often disappointing politicians.

I don't know where I'm going with this. I just think it's crazy how everyone just knows family farmers are poor & need to be saved. But they've made more money than non-farmers (yes, AFTER farm debts & expenses) every single year since 1997.

-Farm bankruptcies are indeed on the rise...from historic lows, back to still-slightly-lower-than-normal levels. -The US used to grow a lot of crops for export. We can't sell them anymore. We SHOULD cut back on crop acreage. To keep growing the same amount we used to would be absolutely insane.

If you wonder why Trump and his goons are making everyone poorer, given the electoral danger, remember how pissy the rich got during the Biden years when the paupers got a slight bump in labor market power. From April 2021.

Pierre Bourdieu once argued that the question of whether something is art isn't answered by the artist's intention or even the object itself. Instead, the quality of being "art" is conferred by a community — curators, dealers, auction houses, audiences, etc. 🧵
