lumines arise is one of the best games I've played all year; it's rare we get legacy sequels that legitimately move the original engine forward. despite being lukewarm on tetris effect, the way arise leverages both the unique audiovisual concept and the meter mechanics really shines. link below!

i’ve articulated this less tactfully in the past but the condescension i see directed at clair obscur feels like it’s overselling JRPGs as a genre a bit. what exactly is the standard this game is supposed to be falling short of?

The thing that's never sat with me re:criticism about Expedition 33 being "baby's first JRPG" is that the people who actually made the game couldn't be more consistently reverent about their influences.

my recommendation: - swap shot and morph ball, swap visor and missile - lower cursor deadzone to 3, even lower also works - crank up camera sensitivity enjoy glorious wiimote gaming

booted up prime 4 and can finally answer the REAL question on everybody’s mind: yes, you can use prime 3 style pointer controls and gradually adjust the camera deadzone, allowing you to completely remove it just like on wii. i’m gonna play the whole game like this

also i’m laughing at the hyrule field comparisons. in prime 4’s context that’s obviously meant in a disparaging way, but if you asked those same critics to comment on ocarina of time’s hub world they would probably buckle under the pressure and resign to a “it was impressive for its time” take

i do expect prime 4 to be mid but it is sorta insane how none of the reviews i’ve seen actually try to describe the combat, puzzles or level design eurogamer review repeats the “the bike feels great to control” line three times without actually describing how it controls
