I find it so funny that Dragon's Quest's spell nomenclature (in Japanese) is essentially an exact copy of Wizardry's. It's like they didn't even try to make it their own Though apparently Wizardry took the idea straight from Oubliette so... it's not like I can judge DQ or anything for that

I like how in Wizardry, when leveling up your stats can go down. Apparently in the DOS version there's a bug where your stats are much more likely to go down than they should, which is just absolutely incredible

Wizardry's pacing is really tough starting out. A level 1 party is basically just at constant risk of facing an enemy tough enough to oneshot literally anyone and you just need to roll with it. It makes you hyper-careful. I know this basically goes out the window once I find murphy's ghost though

So the PSX version of Wizardry 1-3 lets you name characters with Kanji, and the amount isn't gigantic or anything but the variety is actually quite good. I decided to name my party after birds.

Fortnite is one of the worst things that has happened to the video games industry. One of the most vile predatory business models in the industry. Not THE most vile (that'd of course be gacha) but it's not that far off.

A lot of the business failures of the games industry are really rooted in this desire to create a product that dominates the market. The recent Amazon thing really highlights that: they wanted to create a product that outperformed Steam, but they didn't understand Steam or what the audience wanted.

Was just thinking about this again, just to say, Indie games tend to not only be more interesting works of art, they are almost always superior products too. There are areas where I think there needs to be distinction between the two, and when you are selling art for money you need to consider that.

I finally got round to starting Ace Attorney Trilogy last night. It's good to finally play a game in Japanese again. Hopefully I can stick with it this time. Last time I played it was on the 3DS, but the PC port is actually FANTASTIC, the interface is pretty much how I'd want it to be.

I know I've been a little salty in the timeline today but I think talking about my jaded feelings on AAA gaming have been a long time coming. That entire sector has been propped up on hype and hubris lately. If you want AAA games to go back to a niche luxury then keep doing what you're doing.

Is anyone gonna be surprised if AAA gaming shits the bed soon? I'm not going to be disappointed as a consumer as I have basically stopped purchasing AAA games at full price in their entirety. Plenty of fantastic indie games that don't break the bank, combined with an obscene backlog means I'm good.

I notice a lot of people who justify AAA prices also bring up how much Nintendo games costed in the 80s/90s. Which is quite rich, because in Europe, Nintendo games back in the day were considered MASSIVELY OVERPRICED, and were rightly out-competed by Sega, Computer, and Playstation as a result.
