PS2 Shinobi is awesome, but far from perfect or fully realized. Feels like there’s a lot of potential still untapped, like relying less on lock-on/state shit, and be more heavy on positioning, giving enemies more interesting movement. It’s just that the game has no competition in the 3D space. Lol

Ghouls is pretty good but I am very firmly in the camp that the original Ghosts ‘n Goblins is better. Ghouls has a tiny bit more variance in the popcorn sections, but it’s not nearly ramped up enough to make up for its weaknesses in other areas.

Love the more chaotic, fast, kinda old school messy patterns in Guwange, even further emphasized by the shiki speeding bullets up after you let go of them. Feels like a lot of bullet hells, especially modern ones, have more elegant, slower, “neat” patterns, which I’m not as fond of.

Maybe 2026 will be the year when arcade devs finally realize that smoothly escalating difficulty curves & introductory levels shouldn't be in arcade games anymore because there's no practical reason to have them. If there's anything truly & actually outdated about arcade games, it's that

Got my first Under Defeat 1-all. Didn’t record because I wasn’t expecting to get it but also wanna save it for the 2-all. Took me 38 hrs. Easily one of my favorite shmups or games period. A lot harder than it looks. Very methodical.

Out of curiosity I tried some of the early Konami beatemups, the licensed stuff, because I had never touched them before. They are so unbelievably fucking shit. I was actually in awe. The fact that these guys later did shit like Violent Storm and Batman Returns is insane.
