IMO shitting on enemy attack limit systems in melee games is a red herring. To me the issue is that, in most games, attacks are just prompts for single button defensive moves that are incapable of checkmating the player normally. So games have to try & override that system with brute force

Super GnG having even remotely the same level of stock as the first two games is insane to me. That game pisses me off so much. Slow, tedious games where you wait around with so much dead air. The game can barely handle multiple spawns so it has to rely on the “precision” aspect of the platforming.

I’m surprised at how much acceptance and even defense I see for Suck To Target in certain circles. I don’t even like little degrees of automation in stuff like Bayo or Spikeout. Feels like something that’s just wholly a net negative. Probably not a “mechanic” I’m more radically against.

I’ve been playing the Aero Fighters/Sonic Wings games a little the past couple days. I knew they were made by the devs who would form Psikyo, but I wasn’t aware of just how similar they were to them. They should pretty much be considered part of that catalog.

In the arcade version of Hyper Duel, you could hang back in a safe spot and your shots would basically shut down all his projectiles. You cannot do that in the Saturn version. So this boss is much more akin to the midway wall in a lot of arcade games.

I cleared Cadillacs & Dinosaurs (Capcom, Arcade, 1993) on the hardest difficulty! It's a fun game, Slisaurs are terrifying, it'll be interesting to see how long it takes me to adjust back to Final Fight now that I'm used to having a wildly overpowered dash www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpgY...

Something Hyper Bun Buster does really well (like the 80s arcade games it’s influenced by) is that even though you need a strong gameplan for every room, you can’t get ahead of every bit of randomness so you have to do your best to sorta color inside the lines against any resistance.

Talking to people online has really highlighted to me how important it is to stick to people who can be openly argumentative. Otherwise you get ppl who act "nice" only because they're repressing anger, until it boils over & leads to some slimy, nasty behavior
