I think about Ico a lot and how that game fundamentally changed how I approach games, and media as a whole. Engaging with what is given to me at face value, going along with the journey, absorbing every little aspect of the game into my mind visually and kinetically.

I played the game as if the girl was someone I wanted to be happy and safe, I never rushed her, I allowed her to do what she wanted to passively, and what I thought would be nice like walking slowly on the bridges, or taking a rest after a long section. I learned I was playing with my toys my way!

It really showed me that the game is everything that makes it up even the smallest of things, and while there is an objective and goals, what kind of enjoyment I get out of it is how I choose to engage with that world made for me, with the game steering me to immerse myself as much as possible in it

Снежная королева's Queen reminds me of that one concept art for The Queen where her main color was actually white. Black only served as the negative space between the white marks along her body.

In Game Informer Issue 100, they show a screenshot from a prototype of ICO where the Queen's shadowy attire looks very different. Her headdress resembles feathers rather than twisting spikes. She seems to have very puffy sleeves of lattice-like shadow as well.

One aspect that didn't make it into the final script of my last video: Ico was released in 2001 but the body language of its characters feels so realistic. It puts even some modern games to shame. Just look at this scene:

I understand how the misconception came about, but what Ico has on his head in PS1 footage is not a helmet. It's a headband. You can see it isolated here at the center of the PS1 Promo image. There's no top to cover one's head. Rather, it seems to be secured by tied up thread in the back.

It is an artsy game that deserves to be treated like art! But if we turn that mode off for every other game, then that just implies these artsy games are exceptions and not that we actually think “games are art” as a whole

there is art to be found in the mechanics and underlying logic that drives the game. You cannot convince me otherwise lol.

A family member has been playing "The Last Guardian" and I've been reexperiencing it vicariously through him. What an extraordinary game. The Team Ico trilogy remains one of my favourite things; all three are great. But they saved the best for last. I wish they were readily, permanently available.
