📌Okay so, I forgot that functionality of the Old Queen Fight is still testable with debug mode. That's why Ico's animations for it are still in the game. I assumed that turning 'New Queen Battle' off wouldn't result in changes with late builds, and I should've tested that assumption before posting.

Is 'clunkiness' really as impactful a negative gaming critique as people think it is? Every game with 'clunky controls' that I've played just had to be adjusted to with some practice and care. It's fair to state as a warning, but it's just a learning curve where people don't typically expect one.

I'm not invested in a lot of Team ICO Connection Theories. This is, in part, because I recognize a lot of them are just story writing exercises or thought experiments. They can be done for fun, without a whole bunch of evidence or research as a prerequisite. It doesn't harm anything or anyone.

Sometimes I think about the small ways characterization can be conveyed in the cutscenes of Ueda’s games. For ICO particularly, I see it in ways people don’t usually point out. Inaction, specifically, can be a powerful tool. In the opening, Ico does not struggle until he’s locked in his capsule.

It's always a good time to remember that The Last Guardian is a tremendously bold game and Trico is one hell of a technical achievement in video game history. Can't wait to see what Fumito Ueda and all the folks at genDesign are cooking!

This took me an hour or so. It illustrates one of my guesses as to how the Old Queen Fight worked. Ico has some unused animations suggesting he’d be turned to stone in phases (starting from the legs). I wondered if he could strike The Queen’s attacks to reverse this.

These birds you find throughout The Forbidden Lands are called Kites. They are a species of bird well known throughout Japan, and because of this, proverbs have been written about them. This post reminded me of one: 鳶に油揚げをさらわれる “A kite steals the fried tofu” It means to be robbed of one’s due.
