My new year resolution for 2026 is to put my AirPods back in the case every time. I haven’t lost any for a while (which is good as I am not allowing myself to buy a new set if I lose these ones) but it is so annoying when you need them and find they’re in a pocket uncharged.

Mum sent me this photo of my Dad from Christmas Day. 6 months ago I woke up to ‘call home right away’ messages as my Dad had a heart attack necessitating a hasty and stressful trip around the world to be with family. He has made a great recovery thanks to the amazing cardiac care team 💜

My Uncle Jim Tait passed away this week. He was a marine artist born in Unst (Shetland) and mostly painted seascapes. I thought it would be nice to share some of his work. He had such a talent for capturing light and the movement of the sea.

Furious at this. TERFs and Gender Critical people are a loud, radicalized, wealthy minority, forcing groups who've done the right thing for years into horrible positions that none of them want. Stop buying Harry Potter. Fight for your trans brothers and sisters. They'll come for you next.

Your annual reminder that the most revealing difference between Irish and Scottish Gaelic is definitely in the words for December: Mí na Nollag (Month of Christmas) in Ireland, and An Dubhlachd (the Blackness) in Scotland. So once again may I wish you all a lovely Blackness.

It’s my favourite month! Sparkles and twinkly lights everywhere, my birthday is mid-month so good timing for festive parties, time off and seeing loved ones. Really going to try quitting it with refreshing the ARC website and checking the tracker bot.

Brain is full of bees today. So much going on, mostly good but very much a time of transition and uncertainty which I find (to put it mildly)… difficult. Just struck me that I will finish up teaching at what is still UniSA on 18th December and start again in Adelaide Uni on 5th of Jan.
