If you step back, it is truly extraordinary that so many people went to such great lengths and broke so many conventions and risked their political careers and the only outcome of all these efforts and risks was appointing a washed-up old spinner to an ambassadorial post

This might be a stupid query but does anyone know if there are issues with ships being at anchor for weeks around Hormuz? Do they have enough food and supplies for so long a delay? Are vessels able to restock? Can crew leave the vessel? Do crew get paid during the delays?

The chances of Trump actually using a nuclear weapon against Iran are higher than zero. The only safeguard, if he were to give a launch order, would be STRATCOM officers in the chain of command refusing an order considered by them to be illegal. Not a very comforting thought.

While I'm ranting: it also pisses me off that news stories on the rescue of the F15 crew mention that lives were lost while emphasizing that they weren't American lives, as if people without US passports don't have hopes & dreams, and are loved by parents, siblings and children. God, I'm sick of it.

Trump does not think strategically, historically, geographically, or even rationally. He does not connect actions he takes on one day to events that occur weeks later. Allied leaders know that if they help him in the Gulf, he won't be grateful, or even remember
