As a parent of a child with autism, this isn’t just politics, it’s personal. The federal gov’t firing special-needs staff in the Dept. of Education is a direct blow to families like mine. Our kids deserve better. In Congress, I’ll fight to protect & fully fund special education.

Special education isn't a "nice thing to have." It isn't "charity" or doing something to make us feel better. It is a right. The right to a Free Appropriate Public Education is codified in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, signed by a Republican president.

Being autistic is getting told you’re hard to read while literally saying what you mean out loud in english.

All of these things are indicators that disabled people are not second class citizens. Disabled people are not second class citizens, and therefore deserve to experience them.

Yes, disabled people deserve nice things too. They deserve to have whatever social life possible for them. They deserve to have holidays if able. They deserve to have support, entertainment, and hobbies. All of these can be fundamental to a good quality of life.
