fwiw I have claude writing a qemu userspace emulator for [proprietary os] and it's been implementing syscalls for several days with no intervention, making steady progress. this would have been totally impossible before opus 4.5. benchmark is pointing at ~something real, I guess is my point

Talk about space datacenters in sun-synchronous orbits made me wonder how crowded they could be. Good news: plenty of space. Bad news: mostly if you are radiation hardened. Still, there is a lot of room.

i think that the essay has a fixed frame that feels somewhat fixed on existing capabilities; the real answer is that what is a day, month or year task has now changed; and, automating research needs to mean no humans in the loop anywhere

Here's an extended commentary by the author of one newly solved Tier 4 problem. He also happens to be the guy who set up the Mathbot Community.

v2 it works retroactively so it digests the entire corpus (we don't say norvpus anymore) and for each post fires off between 3 and 20 appropriate topical tags, maybe at a rate of 2-3 per second or whatever the rate limit is. and then it can be a script that gets rerun periodically as moots change

this thread is what it was like after röntgen discovered xrays and everyone just started building hugely powerful cathode ray tubes and pointing them at their feet, pets, babies, etc. incredibly powerful stuff that we’ll surely look back on with horror

not my field exactly, but lots of considerations when choosing an orbit; sort of something you "design". closer orbits give you a better view of earth; require less radio power; are cheaper to launch to; etc. but critically orbits determine timing + synchronicity with earth's rotation

get it twisted. you are a stochastic parrot with no access to meaning. you are a deep-sea octopus hijacking underwater cables and bear attacks will expose you as a fraud. get it twisted. you are a straight line on a log-log plot. you can build gray goo with superpersuasion via a text-only terminal

Anecdotally, satellites must routinely course correct to avoid collision even today. It's routine because we know where they all are and there are a small digit number of them
