Something I'd like to ask of all the Minneapolis Park Board candidates is for them to support a VMT (Vehicle Miles Traveled) reduction target. Minnesota, Hennepin County, and the City of Minneapolis all have strong VMT targets, but up to now MPRB has done almost nothing to help.

Dan has been actively involved in our parks for years through his role on the Above the Falls Citizen Advisory Committee (AFCAC), and I know he will work tirelessly to expand our park land along the riverfront and to connect the Missing Link of the Grand Rounds. ’

What transit experts generally tell you is: the highest use of scarce resources is making transit service more *frequent & reliable*. That's what actually boosts ridership. Everything else -- free point-of-use fare, electric buses, fancy new trolleys, architecturally fancy stations -- matters less.

It took heroic efforts to get HB 5002 through the CT legislature. CT has some of the most expensive suburbs & most restrictive zoning in the US - 2+ acre minimum lot sizes near excellent transit infrastructure & job access. Deeply frustrating to see Gov. Lamont's veto.

When this process began in the early 2010s there were design proposals that showed doubling of the number of homes by using the grade change along 27th, going up to 3 stories, reducing front setbacks etc, while maintaining overall "green space" on the site.

It's clear to me the point of this historic district is to bind the hands of MPHA, from a group who see MPHA as a malicious entity. The reality is MPHA is working to add more units to address a growing waitlist for public housing.
