Look at it this way: When someone is choosing the best way to make a trip on NYC Transit the only factors should be speed + convenience, not price. If price becomes the dominant factor that is tantamount to economic segregation and as someone who grew up poor in NYC that disturbs me.

The irony of the "means testing" counter argument that is often used here is that making busses free while keeping subways at full fare is literally a de-facto means test. One will be priced at premium and one will be discounted. At minimum there should be free transfers, but really should be same

Europeans are poorer than Americans, but live longer, have less college debt, less medical debt, less crime, lower infant mortality and better upward mobility. If Europeans are poorer, I'd like to be poorer too.

A particularly egregious example: In our protest, when we cited how unusual it was for an agency to not ask single question of the pilot operator-- the DOT said we were merely operated a concession on DOT property. DOT's own press release calls it a pilot 16 times and so did commissioner at launch!

I'm not even from NY and I cosign this. Case in point: Los Angeles County has this system in place with the TAP cards; they have an app that passengers can download to where they can use their smartphones as a TAP card to board buses and trains. NY should get that app too

They are lightly coated card stock - often completely useless after a few days 🙄 My kid walks to school so the disintegrating omny cards aren’t a personal problem but I scowl at his in honor of the public transit students

No child should have to hop the turnstile on their way to school because their OMNY Pass got damaged or lost. Not only is it humiliating but it also puts kids into direct contact with law enforcement and heavily contributes to fare evasion culture.

Transit should definitely address this ASAP; those OMNY cards that kids get are flimsy and often take weeks to replace. (cue my own MTA childhood trauma) Seems bizarre not to have a mobile alternative for a system designed to work with smartphones...
