Last image from tonight (short film in the morning): this brother out here with his Singer sewing machine, gifting people a custom embroidery on their jerseys and hats with the name and the date, was more artistic than anything at Burning Man and ad gorgeous as a Caravaggio. Magic! Goodnight.

Biking is like everything else on the planet where for the most part it weirdly gets easier the more often you do it. And the earlier you start the more normal it feels. Which is why it seems so easy and natural for people who grow up in places where everyone rides bikes everywhere.

THREAD: A common claim I see is that the reason most of the photos we see from the 1960s are in black-and-white is because of some concerted effort to make events like the Civil Rights Movement seem more distant. While I understand the attraction to this idea, the reasons are simpler than that. 1/

This is exactly it. Uber and Lyft exploded the number of cars on our streets, by creating additional access and then demand for taxi service. No one gave up their car. Waymo is likely to do the same, just adding more vehicles and more demand for being chauffered around the city unnecessarily.

The use of “hallucinate” is a stroke of true evil genius in the AI world. In ANY other context we’d just call them errors & the fail rate would be crystal clear. Instead, “hallucinate” implies genuine sentience & the *absence* of real error. Aw, this software isn’t shit! Boo’s just dreaming!
