Upon reflection 2025 was a solid year for movies. My favs: One Battle After Another, Sinners, Marty Supreme, Weapons, Companion, Superman, The Naked Gun, Predator: Badlands Thunderbolts, Eddington and FF: First Steps.

MARTY SUPREME is another compelling and nerve wracking Safdie portrait of a schmuck trying to make it big. It’s a winner. Chalamet has never been better.

Easily one of the most bizarre Christmas specials ever and by far one of my favourite appearances on the @adventcalendar.house podcast.

The more I see it, the more I dig RED ONE. It’s a tad overlong for sure, it’s goofy in places no doubt but damn if they don’t go for it. I like that it exists. I’m certain its fandom will grow over time.

In 1973, Chuck Jones wrote and directed an animated adaptation of “The Cricket in Times Square.” That same year, he invented a Christmas special sequel. Here’s a podcast about it with @theycallmedigio.bsky.social.

1st day of Advent Calendars! (Mine is the socks 🧦)

AN ALMOST CHRISTMAS STORY is so charming. It really captures the spirit of Rankin & Bass with a modern flair. Great ear wormy music, cute story and beautiful animation. It’s a treat. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend checking it out on Disney+.

Here’s my annual recommendation to check out Bobs Burgers S13 E10 “The Plight Before Christmas”. It’s more than just a great holiday episode of the show, it’s a modern Christmas special classic in my humble opinion. Works even if you’ve never followed the series. It’s lovely. 🎄

The Snowball Protocol is very much the Return of Jafar version of Prep & Landing. It’s fine, but feels like a cheaper version of the original(s). Almost like an episode of a TV series spinoff. If you follow my meaning.
