On the latest @cultfilmclub.com, @shezcrafti.com brought up Mike Hammer’s crazy reel-to-reel, wall-mounted answering machine. Technologies like this confound me. Like, is the recording of his assistant on the reel tape, or is it separate? Is the incoming message the only thing recorded to the tapes?

Just picked up Partially Devoured by Daniel Kraus. It’s a fun mix of memoir and cinema history set to the minute by minute breakdown of George Romero & John Russo’s Night of the Living Dead. I’m only a couple chapters in, but I’m enjoying it so far though there’s an odd egotistical vibe to parts.

I love that this was the brainchild of Michael Nesmith of the Monkees. Not only did he co-write and produce the flick, but he also wrote and performed the score (which is very ahead of it’s time and had to be an influence on Stranger Things…)

In my quest to find an original newspaper ad for The Monster Squad from the Orlando Sentinel (my hometown paper as a kid), I snagged another copy of the ad from the TN area from the August 14th edition of whatever paper serves Tennessee. A sweet Can’t Buy Me Love ad perfectly placed on the back too.
