Excellent piece by Sadhbh o'Neill about the car-centric approach to transport. I have absolutely no doubt that virtually none of our elected reps rely on public transport to go about their daily lives.

Within one month in office, Lores managed to pedestrianize 300,000 square metres of the city centre, filtered out through traffic, and removed significant amounts of on-street parking, as it was determined 60% of vehicles were circulating in search of a space—a significant contributor to congestion.

Part of this proposed development involves converting a portion of the one of Cork's iconic parks into a turning circle for PuC. Note that there is a fine, new, separate road on the other side that leads all the way into the stadium carpark and tunnels.

The plan meets the guidelines set out in Spain's 2021 Climate Change and Energy Transition Law, which requires each municipality with more than 50,000 inhabitants to establish such a low-emission zone for reasons of addressing air quality, climate change, sustainable mobility, and energy efficiency.

Santiago de Compostela is preparing to implement a low-emissions zone this summer, which will constitute 108 hectares of the historic city centre. Enforced by intelligent bollards and license plate reading cameras, the scheme will limit access to delivery vehicles, residents, and emergency services.
